Neurosurgery

In the Neurosurgery Department, a senior consultant neurosurgeon with a vast experience, Dr. D. K. Vatsal and one associate consultant are working. Dr. D. K. Vatsal is a seasoned neurosurgeon well versed in brain and spine disorders. Dr. Vatsal's splendid list of qualifications consisting of MBBS, MS (General Surgery), MCh (Neurosurgery) and DCH degrees have all being achieved from the renowned K. G. Medical College (Lucknow). The fact that Dr. Vatsal is a two time gold medalist, one in MS and the other in MCh examinations is an exemplary illustration of academic brilliance and ingenuity. Finalization of multidisciplinary training in Emergency Care (MDTEC- USA, UK and India) was an augmenting factor to his existing qualifications thus providing him an insight into emergency and urgent patient care. Dr. Vatsal also possesses various fellowships and prestigious memberships viz. FICS, FLCS, MNAMS, member of Neurological society of India and member of Association of spinal surgeons of India.

A glimpse into his past experience brings out the fact that Dr. Vatsal formerly served at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals (New Delhi), a hospital of high repute. This was followed by teaching experience as an Assistant Professor in Department of Neurosurgery, University College of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for a period of two years. Dr. Vatsal later worked in the Neurosurgery Department of KGMU as a Senior Research Associate. During this tenure, Dr. Vatsal performed various major neurosurgical operations. Till date, Dr. Vatsal has performed over 12,000 operations with the numbers growing rapidly. His publication record includes 40 papers in reputed national & international journals with two chapters on posterior decompression of cervical spine and ependymoma brain in the book of Clinical Neurosurgery.

His invention of a new operation named Square Laminoplasty in 2003published in the Journal of Neurosurgical Surgery tops the list of his professional achievements. Such an accomplishment indeed figures among the praiseworthy feats achieved by a doctor.Besides academics, Dr. Vatsal has won several awards in sports events, all playing a crucial part in his versatile personality.
